Ritratti Festival, in 2013 at its 9th season, hosts musical original projects that bring leading international musicians and young artists together on stage in inspiring locations at the heart of Italy's southern region Puglia, in Monopoli, a historical district on the coast.
Homages to the greatest composers from the past and present, dedicated to lands, landscapes, and historical contexts forming the bases of the most significant changes in culture, in musical style and artistic movements are the inspiration of Ritratti's projects, which involve the cooperation with specialized interpreters, musicologists and performers, bringing the background of different disciplines with which the festival creates interactions.
RITRATTI, an authentic dynamic lab, has gained enthusiastic feedback from the public and critics over the years, based on a number of very original projects: the monographic program dedicated to Le Group des Six, with the italian Premier of Germaine Tailleferre's Concerto for 2 guitars and orchestra. The Futuristic Party in 2009, starring composer Daniele Lombardi, with lights and video-art installations and the selection of historical archives audio material. "America!", with the Qualibò Dance Company. Piazzolla´s "Maria de Buenos Aires", feauturing bandoneonist Marcelo Nisinman. The world Premier of Morning in Iowa, incidental music by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, first official recording of the Festival, a score recovered and brought to life again by Ensemble '05 musicians led by Lorenzo Micheli, starring David Knopfler (CD Soundset SR 1043); CAGE 100, A Johnny Caged Community, a live performance created for Ensemble '05 by Clint Lutes and Maurizio Grandinetti.
Many others prestigious international guests have accepted the invitation to cooperate in Ritratti´s projects, among them Tito Muñoz, Antonio Anselmi, Pavel Berman, Per Arne Glorvigen, Rosa Dominguez, Manuela Custer, François-Joël Thiollier, Muriel Cantoreggi , Giovanni Sollima, Claudio and Vera Martinez-Mehner , Cristina Zavalloni.
