GLOW is a vogue-opera based on the life of the flamboyant queer activist and freedom fighter, Simon Nkoli who led the struggle for the acceptance of LGBTIQ rights in South Africa. Imprisoned in solitary confinement for treason by the apartheid regime, he fought against prejudice both within and outside the prison. Mashing up disco beats with arias, interviews from video archives, protest songs and lip-syncing, composer Philip Miller will create a contemporary hybrid opera.
