It all started with a revolutionary vision that the 5-channel surround sound will gradually replace today's stereo sound. In the beginning of year 2000 it was unheard of. Yet here we are now, more than a decade later, with PENTATONE continuously realizing the vision, by pushing boundaries to produce highest quality recordings in the 5-channel surround sound.

The vision was crystal clear: to offer an unrivalled classical music experience through superior audio technology.Together with our talented artists, we take pride in our work of providing an impeccable way of experiencing classical music. For all their diversity, our artists have one thing in common. They all put their hearts and souls into the music, drawing on every last drop of creativity, skill, and determination to perfect their work.

One of the first successful projects of PENTATONE was the recording of the music played at the wedding ceremony of the King of The Netherlands Willem-Alexander in 2002. It was released on the day of the wedding, sold over 75.000 copies, topping the pop charts in Holland for several weeks. PENTATONE also takes pride in the production of the Grammy-winning recording of Prokovief’s “Peter and the Wolf” in 2004. Coupled with a new composition of “Wolf Tracks”, it succeeded in attracting a unique team of narrators: Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev and Sophia Loren.

PENTATONE’s catalogue includes performances by conductors Kent Nagano, Sir Neville Marriner, Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Jurowski, Sir Colin Davis, Yakov Kreizberg, Simon Murphy, Lawrence Foster and Marek Janowski, instrumentalists Julia Fischer, Mari Kodama, Arabella Steinbacher, Johannes Moser, Martin Helmchen, Nikolai Lugansky and Nareh Arghamanyan, and orchestras such as The Russian National Orchestra, The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin,The Wiener Symphoniker, The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, The New Dutch Academy and the Bolshoi Opera.
