The 32nd edition of the Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques de Calvi Festival saw the birth of an unexpected creation… To the circular breathing of Peter Corser’s sax and the warm voices of the Corsican choir, responds the gripping voice of Abdullah Miniawy, a young poet and singer, who became the emblem of an Egyptian youth craving for freedom and justice.

An unusual osmosis made of voices which seem to be coming from the depths of times to weave new dreams and new sonorities at this crossroads that is the eternal Mediterranea, while being the echo of ancient civilisations from the deep Orient. Breaths and timbers that seem to have met and mixed beyond the mountains and deserts, since immemorial times…

From this moment which still vibrates in our hearts, was born the desire to go further and bring out a new interbreeding made of abandonments as much as of conquests; a new, visceral and generous song where everyone exists because everyone embraces and approves.

Abdullah Miniawy (Voice | Singer-songwriter). Abdullah Miniawy is a writer, singer, composer, trumpeter, sound designer and producer from Cairo. Coming from the spoken-words culture, he questions the principle of fusion stricto sensu by integrating varied projects: rewriting of the traditional Spanish repertoire in an experimental project with Hyperpotamus, fusion of Sufi songs and electronic music within the Munich project Carl Gari & Abdullah Miniawy, collaborations around improvised music with the group SighFire… Highly politicized and icon of the Egyptian revolution, Miniawy now tours Europe.

Peter Corser (Saxophone | Composer). Living and working in Paris for twenty years, Peter Corser has collaborated with numerous formations, experimental musicians, dancers, singers, rappers, visual artists, theater and circus groups. His collaborations include SighFire, DCA Cie - Philippe Decouflé, Kaori Ito, Nosfell, Médéric Collignon, Jörg Muller, André Minvielle, Sanseverino, Benjamin Siksou, Himiko, Marlène Rostaing… Practicing continuous breathing in an unusual way, taking his instrument on the paths of trance, Peter Corser invites the saxophone on an infinity of proposals, sometimes written, sometimes improvised.

A Filetta. It is in 1978 that very young people — among whom teenagers, driven by a strong willingness to contribute to the protection of a declining oral heritage — started their journey… and their journey has been long, sometimes sinuous but always punctuated by discoveries and wonderful encounters. Therefore, the singers gladly confess that « the encounter » is written in their musical DNA. This probably explains why they have never wanted to limit this journey to the perimeter of their roots : encouraged by the tradition they inherited from, they quickly opened to others - other territories, other disciplines, other artists (performers, composers, directors, choreographers).
